So, I get all kinds of crap from people who tell me "You claim to be non-partisan, but you only seem to support Republicans". I thought, fair enough, and asked a few friends for advice regarding some sane, non-Daily Kos/MoveOn.org Democrats that I could support. I have to tell you that the list of non-nutjob Democrats is extremely small, perhaps a sign that the party is headed over a cliff?
Well, two names kept coming back to me, Brad Ellsworth and Joe Donnelly. I read about both of them quite thoroughly, contacted both of their offices for comment and info (neither responded to several inquiries) and decided that I could support Donnelly, a conservative Democrat from the South Bend area (2nd CD). Ellsworth? No chance, see Brian's post (linked from our friends at HoosierAccess) here for one primary reason. Simply put, we don't care for elected officials who break promises they make to their constituents, and Ellsworth has a history of this. It's too bad our friend Andy Horning decided to piss in the wind at another gubernatorial run, as he could have won this seat as Ellsworth's Republican opponent.
Well, then I had the chance to meet Luke Puckett a few weeks back, and realized I was supporting the wrong guy (not to mention that Donnelly has turned out to be another of Pelosi's robots), and so we are officially, for the first (and not likely the last) time doing a u-turn and switching our support to the "other guy".
Puckett is a Christian family man and successful entrepreneur with a very interesting background. According to his site:
Quite a resume, I might add. Certainly he brings enough depth to represent the people of the 2nd CD well, much better than Donnelly has.Luke lives in Goshen with his wife, MaryBeth. They have three children Victoria, Brandon, and Annalisa.
Understanding the Hoosier values of family, faith, hard work, and freedom comes very natural to Luke Puckett. It was not long after moving to Michiana as a young child did he become a die hard Notre Dame football fan. Luke married a South Bend born and raised farmer’s daughter who was also his high school sweetheart. After almost 20 years of marriage Luke says, “I’m more in love with her today than when I said ‘I do’.”
As a husband, father of three, entrepreneur, and small businessman, Luke learned early on that it would take hard work, commitment, and visionary outlook of the future to make a difference in this world. After having lived and worked in Central America Luke and family have a very insightful grasp as to why people outside our borders want to live free like Americans. Luke has not only made a difference internationally but right here in Northern Indiana as well.
Luke’s companies have not only brought lasting employment to Hoosiers but Luke has exported those core Hoosier values to other parts of the world. He has accomplished this through his humanitarian and international micro finance initiatives. Working with foreign governments and small business entrepreneurs in other countries Luke has gained valuable insight and experience. He has found, implemented, and managed solutions to build better economies and improve the lives of the local citizens. Not only does he work internationally but Luke, most recently, has kept his entrepreneurial skills honed by starting his Elkhart based Monster Pontoon Corp..
Luke readily admits that he loves the challenge of business but what truly motivates him is his love for God, country, and passion to help people succeed in life. Luke and family are members of First Baptist Church where they are actively involved with the youth and missions.
Luke began his education at South Western Michigan University, earned a B.A. in languages and theology from Northland Bible College, and ended in Costa Rica with an MA in Spanish from the Spanish Language Institute.
We here at CircleCityPundit.com are proud to formally endorse Luke Puckett.
